Every line prices against a guide band and a margin floor while the rep is still editing. When a line breaks the floor, the approval route is computed from that line — tier, approver and SLA — before anything is sent.
On the demo quote, the services line at 38.9% margin is what routes the whole document to tier 3. The worst line sets the route. That is the entire philosophy.

What it is
Three places a quote loses money.
Guardrails while the rep is still editing
The builder shows list, discount, net and margin per line, with the guide band for each family on the side: Platform 12%, Modules 12%, Services 10%, Support 8%. A clean line says “clean”; a 38.9% margin line says “margin < 45%” and names its tier-3 route.

An approval queue with a clock on it
41 quotes pending, $6.36M of net, tier-chipped 1–3, with wait hours on every row — 74 hours at the top. The tier is not assigned by feel: tier 3 means margin under 45% or discount over 18%, and the card says so.

Leakage measured, not vibes
The Pulse prices the drift: average discount 11.3% against a 12% guide, $1.47M over guide in net terms. One alert isolates a single family — Modules cells averaging 1.8 points over guide, $231K — so the fix is a price-book edit, not a memo.

Who runs it
Three roles keep a quote honest.
Roles, not references. We have no named customers yet, so nobody in these photographs is quoted, credited or claimed as one.
Account executive
Builds in the builder with the bands visible. Discount past 8% is no longer a surprise at signature time — the route is on the quote from the first edit.

Deal desk
Works the approval queue by wait hours and owns the price book: the Modules leakage alert ends with someone editing a band, and that someone is them.

Finance approver
Sees tier 3 only: margin under 45% or discount over 18%, with the line that caused it named. Approval is an exception, not a ritual.

How it runs
A quote's life, in the order it actually happens.
01
Build against the book
The account's price book sets list; the family bands set the guide. The rep sees margin move with every edit, before the document exists.
02
Route from the worst line
One line under the floor sends the whole quote to finance. The route, tier and estimated SLA appear on the builder, not in a policy PDF.
03
Wait visibly
In the queue, wait hours accumulate in public. A quote past 48 hours is red on every approver's screen, which is most of what an SLA is for.
04
Count the leakage
Accepted, the quote's discount joins the book's arithmetic: 11.3% against a 12% guide, $1.47M over — the number the next price-book review starts from.
One record
The quote hangs off the deal the estate already keeps.
Quotes is not a document tool with a database attached. It prices the same account and deal the rest of the estate is working.
Finding this out on the third call is worse for you than reading it here, and worse for us.
Quotes is not generally available. What opens today is the live build running on demo data — Northline CPQ in the chrome is the demo workspace, not a customer.
We have no named customers to show you, so this page shows none. The accounts and quotes in the captures are demo data, not references.
The guide bands, floors and tiers in the captures — 12% guides, a 45% floor, three approval tiers — are the demo configuration. Yours are set with your deal desk, not inherited from a screenshot.
What the builder does not show is a billing engine: quotes convert to orders and invoices in the finance products, and the handoff is an estate decision, not an automatic one today.
No audit or compliance certification has been issued. What we can evidence about hosting, encryption and access is on the security page.
Yes. Every screenshot is a capture of the running build at /app/quotes, on demo data. The demo workspace is named in the chrome.
What exactly triggers an approval?
The rules are on the builder screen: discount over 8% goes past a manager, over 18% or over guide to the deal desk, and margin under 40% or discount over 18% to finance. The route is computed from the worst line, and the quote says which line that was.
Where do the guide bands come from?
From the price book, per product family — Platform and Modules at 12%, Services at 10%, Support at 8% in the demo book. Your deal desk sets yours; the leakage alert is what tells them a band needs editing.
Does a quote know when the buyer looked at it?
Status does: the Pulse breaks 166 open quotes into draft, sent, viewed, in review and approved. The 77 envelopes past the 48-hour e-sign SLA are a separate, priced alert.
Is Quotes audited or certified?
No certification has been issued. What we can evidence about hosting, encryption, tenant isolation and production access is written up on the security page.
